Leonard Switzer

I am looking for any information concerning my grandfather, Leonard D. Switzer. I am compiling family history and am very interested in my grandfathers service during the war. I have read the diary he kept during the war and I know that he flew with the 454th Bombgroup, 736th Sq. Unfortunately, he has been gone for awhile and his diary is very vague with few specific details. I would appreciate any information anyone might have concerning his service with the 454th and/or his time in Italy.

Most who can help need a little more info. Like dates, rank, crew photos, etc, With some of those dates, some can give you some facts. Maybe the Diary tells some of that. Like other crew members names. penick14

Sorry it took so long to reply... Lt. Switzer was a Liberator pilot with the 454th from 1943 to sometime in 1944 (the diary abruptly ends in May 1944 but he did survive the war). The members of his crew were: Leslie Amelang (Co-Pilot), Edgar Rosenwasser (Navigator), Richard Weldon (Bombadier), Sherman Hunt Jr. (Engineer), Charles Trommer (Radio), John Kohlmann, Evan Defabio, Simon Arvanitakis, and William Savino. I do have one crew photo. Switzer is in the middle of the back row, but the rest are not identified. [image]local://2974/3BC421BDD6B14B2E8A9CC981DADB6E56.jpg[/image]
