Rob-
The 31st FG Book has very little:
Lt. Knapp -  Last seen Graz Area
Lt. Mann - On return Flite , over Island of Vis ,
Lt. Mann made a sharp left turn , almost colliding
with Lt. Warner , then went down and disappeared.
Oxygen Failure ?

Thanks Mike while you are close to the book (wink wink nudge nudge) does it have a first name for Grimes on that same day?

Thanks Rob

Rob - A Mystery. The narrative for 5/24 doesn't even mention Grimes
and states the 31st lost 2 Pilots ???

Thanks again Mike....The plot thickens as I now have 4 Pilots listed for that date with the 31st FG, also have first names and service numbers for three of the four, it must have been challanging for the 31stFG to keep the records up ? or my (more likely) limited resources are making my search diffucult.

Thanks
Rob

Prehaps between what I have listed and the book a more complete history will evolve.

Hi Rob,

There are two 31st FG MACRs that I know of for 24 May 1944, details below:

Edwin F. Knapp of the 308th FS/31st FG was flying P-51 Serial No. 42-106588. His MACR is 5185.

MACR 6316 is for Harrison (no middle name) Mann of the 309th FS/31st FG flying P-51B Serial No. 42-106595.

Browning G. Grimmett was not a member of the 31st FG. Rather, he was a pilot with the 401st BG, and was lost on 7 May 1944. See MACR 4587.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

It's MACR 5185 and the a/c was a P-51B-10, but the correct s/n is 42-106582.
