Karachi Stations - 06/10/2005 08:58:56 AM
The 51st Fighter Group went to Karachi on 14th March 1942.   Can anyone give me the precise location in Karachi?

I gleaned the following from the 51st FG unit history:
Immediately on arrival in India , the 51st FG headquarters sqdn and 25th FS went toe Karachi Cvil Airport (later Karachi Airbase, about 10 miles from the city), the 16th FS went to a reinforcement camp within the Karachi city limits and the 26th FS went to North Malir Camp, 16 miles outside the city. By the end of the month, the group had been reunited at a new camp on Karachi Airbase, within sight of its famous dirigible hangar. On 23 June three pilots and P-40s went to Dinjan to run recon missions into Burma and guard the Assam end of the Hump route. The 16th FS departed for China on 29 June and stayed there throughout the war. In October, the rest of the 51st FG joined the 26th detachment at Dinjan.
