John Durward Burns

I am searching for information regarding my Uncle, John Durward Burns, who was a Gunner in the 398th B.G/601st BS;  John's plane was shot down over Hamburg, Germany on June 18, 1944; this was John's 13th mission.  John joined the Army in 1942, was a high school graduate of Garland High School, Garland, TX.

Any info, pics, articles on mission, etc. would be greatly appreciated.  Where was the 398th BG/601st BS stationed while overseas?

Thank you.

Thank you Mike for your help.  My father was 15 years old when his brother, John Durward, was shot down.  We have misplaced so many items from a move - due to my father's death.  Oh gosh, if only I could have shown Daddy some of these records;  Their family was altered and never recovered after the death of John Durward.  I do know that 3 of the survivors visited with my Grandparents, Dad, and Uncle;  If only I knew who they were, or their families, to see if they might have photos, diaries, etc. from their time spent with John while stationed in England.   My father did get by the small village in England where they were stationed and he told me, before he died, that the air strip was still there - but this has been many years ago.  Again, thank you for giving me a way to learn about my Uncle, thus bringing me a little closer to my own Dad.
With sincerest thanks,
Joy Burns Potrykus
