I am looking for information about Jesse E. Gregory, 487th BG, 838th BS.  When did he arrive on site for duty, what missions did he fly and in what AC, what were the names of his fellow crew members.

Also, I have tracked him from Basic Training through Crew Training.  Where did he travel to arrive in England, the departure from Kearney, NE, and the places and dates visited enroute.

Also, are any crew members still surviving to be contacted?
Any and all information greatly appreciated.

James Gregory

    James,
Was he a bombardier by chance?  I have a listing for a J E Gregory graduating from Carlsbad, NM class 44-04.

Yes, that is him.  He was a class mate of my cousin William A. Gregory, also a bombardier.  They were class mates as freshmen at Clemson college and enlisted together in Miami Beach, FL.   They went through all their training together until they were seperated for Crew Training at Kearney, NE

I would appreciate any and all information you can provide.

The crew arrived in July 44 at Lavenham, and started operations on August 1. They were flying B-17s, as the 487th had just switched from B-24s then.
          Crew was as follows:
          Charlton A. Deuschle pilot
          Eugene F. Steffens, copilot
          Allan B. Underwood, navigator
          Jesse E. Gregory, bombardier
          Carl L. Late, engineer
          William J. Cochran, radio-operator
Grady E. Deelaney, ball turret gunner
          John L. Haglund, waist gunner
          Robert J. Crooker, waist gunner
Harry M. Hinkson Jr, tail gunner
B-17G 43-38007 received a direct hit by flak in the right wing, and exploded within seconds. It crashed near Lostau, 13 km SW of Burg near Magdeburg.
Deuschle and Crooker were the only survivors.

            James,
I can't add anything more other than his class which was Carlsbad, NM 44-04.  I have access to his class photo.  If you are interested in a copy, contact me at hfhmsite@comcast.net   Be patient as I am on vacation.

Pictures and personal remberences add a lot and I hope that you may be able to help. I would really appreciate it if you would summerise what you know about each in a paragraph or two so that I can add it the Their profiles

My grandmother on my mother's side was a Gregory from Granville County NC. I have an interesting family tree that goes back to John Gregory 1670's
