Anyone have any history/info on this plane?
I believe it was attached to the 333rd.

Thanks,

Hi Andy

Assigned 333rd BS, 94th BG, February 20th 1945.

From the 'Mission Formation Charts' i have for February - April 1945, this aircraft doesn't show up as flying on any 94th BG missions. Only have four charts missing for this period.

It is possible that being assigned to the 333rd BS this aircraft could have been used as a 'Lead Aircraft' for other BG's in the 4th Combat Wing?

There is a photo of a B-17G carrying this name on page 343 of 'Lingering Contrails'.

Regards

Chris.

Andy,

Walnut Ridge was one of the storage locations for aircraft returning from overseas.  Perhaps not as well known as Kingman it served the same purpose, the transition from 'life' to scrap.

Hi Andy,

The nose art panel for this aircraft STILL exists!

It was restored by the State of TEXAS and is on exhibit at the American Airpower Heritage Museum in Midland,Texas with 32 other panels.

Thanks to the Manager at the Walnut Ridge,AK salvage facility.

Just click on www.savethegirls.org and enter the gallery, select the first thumbnail photo on the left in the B-17 collection to view the image of the panel.

Also visit their other website link for additional information. They have quite abit of information on the aircraft.

Hi Andy

Have you noticed the aerial just forward of the cockpit? Seeing that i assume it must have been a 'Lead Aircraft', as i don't believe that this was standard, not even on late war B-17's.

Chris.
