    Hey Mike,

Yes that's him! I have around a hundred letters of his from training and the initial few months in England. He was with the 489th and 448th. I had no idea he was a POW!

Beau - he was shot down 1/13/45
    B-24 # 250661 EI   448th BG , 714th Sq.
    Pilot - Capt. Edward Wall

I checked NARA DB - he was POW but no location given. Repatriated after War.

Beau - NARA doesn't list what Stalag Luft he was in. However - I looked up his Pilot , Wall , and he was in Stalag Luft III - then moved to Nuremburg. I would think the same for Young.
Here is List of other Crew - maybe you can locate them or relatives.
    P - Capt. Edward M. Wall - Brighton , MA.
Nav- FO William D. Fortner  Seminole, OK.
B - Lt. Raymond T. Binkely   Bellflower, CA.  ---  KIA
NT - Sgt. Victor A. Jensen  Fairmont, NEB.
TT - Sgt. Ansel J. Gladish  Petersburg , IN.
RO - Sgt. Robert M. Carlton  Medford, MA.
LW - Sgt. Ernest Willoughby  Fairbury , NEB.
RW - Sgt. Elvon O. Coleman  Vienna , GA.
TG - Sgt. Clarence S. Scollard  Buffalo , NY.
    9 - POW  1- KIA
The MACR might have some info.

Additional information which you might find interesting ~

    8th USAAF Mission #791 of 968, 448th BG Mission # 200 of 262 total.
Target:   Rhine River Railway Bridge at Worms, Germany.

    B24-J-1-FO, #42-50661
Poor weather conditions play havoc with the mission.  Navigational error brought the formation within range of flak batteries at Saarbrucken, Germany with devastating results.
Lt. Binkley was attempting to dislodge a hung-up bomb when he was fatally struck by flak.  An ensuing fire forced the remaining crew members to abandon the a/c.  All crewmen were immediately captured with the exception of Capt. Wall who evaded for four days before finally being captured.
Ironically, Lt. Binkley who was not the regular Bombardier for the Wall Crew, delayed getting his pass for leave with his original crew.  He was then selected as a replacement for the day's mission.

    Beau,
I've put the request thru to my contact with the class book.  Be patient, he works on the scans as a side job.  If you have not heard from me in say 30 days, send me a private message as a reminder.

Willis Harold Young, Jr. was my father.  I am transcribing some notes of his that I found recently as a surprise for my brother, and in doing some background research stumbled upon your site tonight.  You can not imagine how excited I was to see my father's name as the first posting.

He went by Hal.  He was in Stalog Luft 1.  After the war he returned to Maryland and worked for the Navy Department as an aeronautical engineer.

Please tell me more about the letter that you have.  I would also be interested in photographs.

This thread has been inactive for quite a while, but I'm still trying to connect with Beau Wright.  I would love to see copies of my father's letters.  They never made it home to my mother.  They are both long gone, and I am the family historian.  It would mean the world to my family to see these letters.
