Information

Hello, I am looking for information on my grandfather. Was assigned to the 15th AAF 465th Bomb Group 783rd Sq. He was a belly gunner. I have a very good collection of photos of the the two B-24J's he flown in the Dragon's A** and the Blue S. The Dragon' A** went down some time in late 44 or early 45 with a replacement crew in it. Also the photo shows a "S" on the side of the aircraft near the waist gunner, would like to know what this means? Would love to find out any information about this or anyone who may have known my grandfather or members of his crew...I know this a longshot but.. never know.

Hi :-) Have you checked the 465th BG Association Page ?

    If not, go to <http://www.armyairforces.com/dbassociations.asp?Group=277>

This will give you a contact for the 783rd Bomb Squadron.

You are much more likely to get an answer from someone that flew in the 783rd BS.

I think you will find the "S" was a designation within the 783rd SQ for a particilar aircraft. I.E. the first a/c would have the letter "A" on the side, the second would have the letter "B" etc, down through the alphabet.

    Jim :-)

    Mr. Peters,

    Thanks for the information.

If anyone is out there who may have known him or his crew I would greatly appreciate the information. My grandfather's name was Julian Thomas Sapp.

He was 783rd Sq aircraft name the Dragon's Ass and the Blue S. Dragon's Ass had shark's mouth and teeth.
