You can check their full POW records on the aad.archives.gov website. Abram, Melvin was a PVT in the infantry. His parent unit was 314 (not sure what that means, perhaps his infantry regiment?) William J Killion was a T/Sgt in the infantry. Same parent unit, 314. Now Killion is interesting because apparently as a 2nd Lt, he was also a POW in Korea. http://militarytimes.com/citations-medals-awards/recipient.php?recipientid=64087

Thanks for the replies, greatly appreciated. Scott - Interesting that you posted the Stalag Luft IV roster as that is my work. I have combined the rosters of the late Leonard "Rosie" Rose and Robert Ludden, as well as from the NARA, but going the extra mile in collecting the information as A/C number, A/C name, lost date, MARC, etc. I am also working on including all of the other allied forces POWs i.e. British, Polish, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, etc. Just out of curiousity, how did you get a portion of it? Thanks again for the help! Regards,
Andy

Andy, This a commendable and daunting task you have set for yourself. To have all this information in one database or published work would be a true achievement. This is a much needed resource for the families of those who became POW’s and world history in general. I would suspect the Polish records could be most problematic as these records fell under Soviet control after the war. Wish you the best of luck in this endeavor. Best Regards, Scott

Scott - You would think that obtaining information on the Polish POWs would be difficult, but I have more information filled in for the Polish POWs then I do for the US POWs. The author of the book Footprints on the Sands of Time by Oliver Clutton-Brock passed onto me a list of all the non-American POWs in SL IV complied by Mr. George Dummett. Mr. Dummett was the Lager Postman. The names included serial number, barrack number, room number, and POW number. I wish to someday put this into publication, but feel it will never be to the stage of completion that will do anyone any good, as I am having difficulty obtaining basic info such as A/C number, A/C name if app., MARC number, etc. as most of the Bomber Groups I need I can't get the info. I have been relying on these BG's websites in compiling the info I want to tput together. Most just don't exist, and the NARA has very little unless I want to obtain service records for over the 10,000 names I have. I'll keep plugging away though. Regards, Andy

My Grandfather, Walter Florczak from Newark, New Jersey was in Stalag Luft IV after being shot down by the Germans. He was in the Air Force. He passed away several years ago, but I could ask my grandmother for some info. The hard part is that he never really talked about his ordeal due to the pain it has caused him and ultimately his family. Thank you for your time

Hello, Dan I am your mother's cousin, and in the summer of 1986 taped an interview with your grandfather, Walter Florczak, about his POW experience. Email me at robert@robertflorczak.com and I will get a copy to you. Regards, Robert Florczak
