Info on Leland 'Spike' Simpson 9th BG, 13th AF - 10/05/2004 01:31:39 AM
This past weekend, while going through some boxes packed up years ago, I ran across some paperwork on my father; Capt. Leland S. Simpson, O-1288801. The letter was addressed to him via the 9th Bomb Group, 13th Air Force, APO 74, San Francisco, CA and dated 10 September 1946. Dad's uniform has a Pacific Campaign medal award and I remember him telling me that after VJ-Day, they were pushing brand new P-38 Lightnings over a cliff rather than taking them back to the States. The guys were taking the radios out of the aircraft because they said they could pick up stateside radio broadcasts(???). The MP's would go through the living quarters and confescate (sp?) the radios as they were to be destroyed with the aircraft.

Does anyone remember those kinds of events (aircraft destruction, radios, etc)? Also looking for anyone who might have known my dad while in the Pacific.
