Info on Capt. Carl R. Alfred??? - 01/02/2008 04:23:51 AM
Dear all, does anyone has a list of both aerial and ground kills of Capt. Carl R. Alfred of the 336 FS, 4th FG, who was KIA on the strafing mission on April 16, 1945? The point is that his score differs, for instance:
a) 3 aerial - 5 ground kills
(source: Escort to Berlin by Garry Fry and Jeff Ethell)
b) 0 aerial - 8 ground kills
(source: 'Down to Earth' Strafing Aces of the Eighth Air Force by William N. Hess)
According to the AFHRA's database of aerial victory credits Capt. Alfred wasn't credited with any aerial kill at all!

Many thanks for your assistance in advance!
Kind regards, Filip

Dear Mike, do you mean

Fighter Units and Pilots of the 8th Air Force September 1942 - May 1945: Volume 2 Aerial Victories - Ace Data (Schiffer Military History Book Series)?

Could you please specify types of the destroyed/damaged aircraft, dates and locations if you have the book?

Thanks. Filip

Dear Mike,

thanks a lot! This is rather strange - the kills claimed on 1/16/45, 2/22/45 and 3/21/45 (six in total, not seven) are also listed in Escort to Berlin by Garry Fry and Jeff Ethell but no kill on April 16, 1945! Could you please let me know on what source the book is based? I would also appreciate if you could specify the page so that the reference is completed:-)
Regards, Filip

Dear Mike,
335th and 336th FS claimed 61 enemy planes destroyed in Prague and Pilsen. According to "Escort to Berlin" by Garry Fry and Jeff Ethell, the only scoring pilot of those eight lost to flak on that mission was Capt. Carpenter, Capt. Alfred is not listed here!
Could you please let me know what is the entire group's tally Miller's book?
Thanks anyway!
Regards, Filip

To be honest, this is really strange that the score differs!
