Info on Bertrand W TARDIF
Hello everybody, I would like to have more informations about Bertrand W TARDIF, (Manchester N.H. USA. in 1944). As far as I know, he was shot down in september 1944 probably while flying in a B-24. He was helped by the Belgian Resistance in the Salmchateau area (Ardennes), that's why I would like to have more details concerning his plane number, crew, bomb group, cars gate and crash site. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards from Belgium. GUY

Guy, I do not know any of the crew names or which one is Tardif. It appears that he is one of the three Lts.(?) standing in the middle of the back row. I did discover that his last name is spelled Tardif and not with two "f's" as shown under the photo. His serial number is 31109604. His occupation before enlistment indicates that he was a secondary school teacher. Perhaps this will help you with your search. Cheers,

Hi Martin, I just received more information on my private mail. The Tardif Crew bailed out safely near allied lines on september 27, 1944. (Approximately south of St Vith - Belgium). They all could escape with the help of belgian civilians and went to american lines. Pilot- 1Lt Bertrand W Tardif Co pilot- 1Lt Ray W Del Cielo Bombardier- Capt James H Harris Navigator- 1Lt Clement L O'Brien Engineer- T/Sgt Francis F Koehnke Radio- T/Sgt Stanley F Bolsega Nose turret- S/Sgt Joseph F Tito Waist gunner- S/Sgt Clifford Wallwin Waist gunner S/Sgt Arthur C Baker Tail Turret- S/Sgt James M Moyles On the E&E report #2419 we can read that Bertrand W Tardif had the # O-811467. ( not the same # as on your response) His peace time occupation was teacher. ( Same info as on your message). However, we still don't know the number of the plane nor where it crashed. (The "Male Call" of the 453th flew until the end of the war) Hope this can be interesting. Best regards Guy

Hi Dennis en Gerda, Thank you very much for your response. However I have not the same infos. The B-24 42-52627 (Banias crew) crashed near Ensisheim in France, not somewhere South of St Vith (Belgium). Bertrand W Tardif was not a member of this crew, on the MACR #6936, the name of the Lt Tardif is listed as a "person having last knowledge of the plane", not as member of the crew. Best regards Guy
