Identifying a plane WWII ITALY 43 - 05/17/2008 04:13:26 PM
I am mailing from France

ITALY WWII end of 1943 , a plane fall just beside my grand father's house.
I still have several pieces of the plane and specially 2 pieces of the fuselage where I can read the following reference : 73-14308-4 and another reference in a small circle A 943 and another reference in another small circle HT 20  I'm trying to identify this plane since 6 years, It may be a P40,SPITFIRE ,A36. I tried to get some MACR of the period, but nothing real sure. It was at 40 km north west from MONTECASSINO, and the pilot fall in parachute, my grandfather hided him during 7 mounths till the US army passed the froont of Montecassino. Could you help me to identify this plane. How are composed the references of pieces of fuselage for WWII planes ?  Any information would be precious.
