TT,
Don't know exactly what your looking for, but if you go to their website www.390th.org , then click on research, you should find a lot of answers.  Also, their research dept. at  res390th@aol.com   can answer any specific questions.

My brother-in-law's dad flew Hell's Belle as part of crew 44 from 2/15/45 to 3/30/45.  I am currently doing a B-17G plastic model with correct markings to give him as a Christmas present.  If you have pictures, I would be interested.
Thanks,
Monty

Hi Topturret

Thanks!

Good morning gentelmen, lets settle down....Monty and Paul unless you want to volunteer KP duty for two weeks calm down and take your seats.

ok...seriously.

Hi Paul and Monty.

Monty, The B-17G number 4231717 'Hell's Belles' was lost on the 8th of March 1944.  Please check your info again. I do know there was a several planes called Hells Bell and I believe one called Hells Belle with no 's' on the end one including a B-25.

In any case the only real good photo of 'Helles Belles' that I have is the one posted here. I have a photo of crew 18 along side of a B-17G..... but I have heard it said that they would use the closest plane to the stations just to get those crew shots out of the way.

Same goes for a pic of my Uncle with his ammo belt over his shoulder...what plane...who know for sure?

Paul....PM me with your e address and I will send you what I have.

Hopes this helps.

Thanks for the answer.  I concur that there were probably more than one airplane with a version of that name.  The serial number of the "Hell's Belle" that my brother in law's father flew was 46954 and is the plane in my avatar.  Here is the text of the email that my brother in law sent me:

"There is no mention of Hell's Belle in the data base you found.( I
actually found that data base a few years ago and went through a lot
of this) but Dad had always told me the call letters on his plane
were CC F. The serial number, in additin to being verifed by the data
base was also veriifed in an unpublished memior by the original pilot
of crew 44 (my Dad was co-pilot), Bill Maddron. Bill was promoted to
another capacity and my Dad was promoted to pilot of the crew. That
is the plane (the one in the painting) that my Dad referred to as
Hell's Belle.

I have a book on the 8AF that details the color schemes of all of the
aircraft deployed in WWII that Dad gave me for Christmas thirty five
years ago. The scheme for the 390th, and the Squadron letters CC were
detailed in the book. At the time Dad said his plane was silver with
the yellow trim as shown in the book and which matches the painting.

Interestingly, my Dad implied that Hell's Belle was his only plane,
other than the Oregon Webfoot (Maddroon was a Duck from Oregon State)
that they flew over at the beginning of their tour. Actually he was
in several different planes and it seems it was common in the later
part of the war for other crews to use a plane that "belonged" to a
different crew, depending on availability, duty rotation, etc.

I see you also found the reference to Liquid-8-Or. That may have been
the name given by the crew who flew it over in January, or the crew
who took it over after my Dad's crew finished their tour, which is
more likely. My Dad told me many times that there was no name or nose
art on that plane though, as the painting shows.

My Dad's flight jacket though did have the name Hell's Belle on it,
along with bomb symbols for missions. My oldest brother has the
flight jacket. It was pretty faded last time I saw it.

Finally, it was a B-17G, actually made by Douglas under sub contract
with Boeing."

So anyway, there's the story.  Sorry for any confusion.
Monty
