1st Lt Edgar H. Wittmann from Indiana is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in Manila, the Philippines. His unit was 394th BS, 5th BG, flying B-17s and B-24s. There is a B-24J listed as being lost on 30 Sept 44 and flying with 5th BG: 44-40932 (MACR 11033) 5th BG has a website www.5thbomberbarons.com with contact addresses for perhaps further info. Parrott4usa6 My mother's cousin was the fight engineer/gunner on that flight and was lost with LT Wittman. His name was TSGT John W Stroud. I have done some research and you can contact me at spikemyers@verizon.net. The plane he was lost on a B-24J s/n 44-40529, and the MACR is 9456. The date of loss is listed wrong in the DB.

Thanks for the info. It indeed seems that all references say Oct 30, 1944 for the loss of 44-40529, but now it appears to have been on Sept. 30, 1944 (as well). Regards, Leendert Brugge/Belgium

The attached pic from the Australian National Archives gives some details. These cards were raised to aid in the post war search of the SWPA for missing Allied aircrew. Cheers Pete [image]local://upfiles/3539/EB8F41E8FEC647838250C88BE65139B2.jpg[/image]
