I am just curious, my father was in the 42 Sq. 11 BG H from 1940 until 1945. In many of his early photos there is usually a B-18 behind the group. He was stationed at Hickam from 1940 and was there for the Attack on 12/7/1941 before going into the Pacific. I know they used the B-18 at times to patrol the islands after the attack. Some were used later on until the B-17s production could catch up. Does anyone restore B-18s or fly them at Air Shows? I know the B-17 and B-24 have huge followings. But does anyone restore the B-18s and are any out there to see fly or as a static display? Thank you,

It looks like your options for viewing a "real live" B-18 are pretty limited. According to Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-18_Bolo) there are only five B-18s still in existence. None of these are flying. Four of them are located at: Castle Air Museum, Atwater CA; the National Museum of the USAF, Wright-Patterson AFB OH; Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, Denver CO; McChord AFB WA; and the Pima Air & Space Museum, Tucson AZ. The fifth one is apparently in a gulch in Hawaii. I'd suggest checking out the one at Wright-Patt.

Did you see this web site: http://www.prop-liners.com/b181.htm it talks about the last flight however provides an email and telephone number that you might be able to obtain more info on the efforts to restore.

Thank you Linda, that was a great story. I have read they were so short of planes after the Attack on Hickman on 12/7/1941 they were used as patrol planes around the island. But they did not see much after that and some were converted to other uses. I stopped at the Delaware Valley Historical Aviation Museum a year ago. They have a fully restored ME 262 I wanted to see. A retired Colonel was so surprised when I showed him the photo of the B-18. He had not seen one in a long long time.

Dear Linda, I wrote to the email connection on the site you sent me about the B-18. I just heard from the man and he would appreciate any photos of my father and the crew with their B-18. Thank you very much,
