Howard Joseph Thompson? - 12/24/2004 02:00:54 PM
I am trying to find any information about my dads service, Howard Joseph Thompson. He died when I was 12 (1979) and had never talked about the war. All I really know is he went to Aerial Gunner school at Randolph (found old orders), and served on a B-29 in Guam (20th AAF). We have nothing on the group or squadron except the insignia I found that maybe was it ... however I haven't been able to match it to anything. A couple stories passed down are that he and someone had made a car out of a wing tank or something ... (I used to have a picture of him in it when I was a kid). Another is that his crew was training to drop a 3rd A-Bomb when he went home due to a death in the family ... a Senator intervened.

If this sounds like someone you served with ... please e-mail me. All leads are dead ends so far ... discharge papers read as if what he did was classified ... (missing data ... much like mine)

Thanks,
Jonathan P. Thompson
U.S. Army Special Forces (1983-1984)
