Honington - Repair Depot / Charles Wachendorfer, Jr
-

Hello. I am new to this Forum. I am just beginning to learn about this era of AAF history. My prior Aviation History interest is in General Aviation of the 1920's-1930's. BUT.. Recently . I came across an interesting Photo collection in my dad's hangar loft. Evidently, my dad acquired the photo scrapbook from Charles Wachendorfer, Jr. who was a repair engineer in the 8th Air Force Service Command. He was from my hometown, Lampasas, TX. I believe he may have been stationed at Honington, but I am still trying to piece this info together. Does anyone have info on this man? Apparently, my dad knew him and was given the responsibility to care for the photo scrapbooks before Mr. Wachendorfer died in 1975. I am trying to determine if there are any living descendants. There are numerous photos of B17's from many different squadrons/groups, etc. Most of these are crash landing or damage photos that I believe were used to document repair work. This collection may be a very important historical collection as it has serial numbers of most airplanes and may assist historians to determine the final disposition of some of these airplanes. Contact me by email barnstmr@aol.com if you can help find the descendants of Mr. Wachendorfer.

Terry, Could you just send a list of the serial numbers, please? I believe there are many researchers over here ready to help you. Regards, Mike
