Help please, 439th TCG lost June 6, 1944 - 12/21/2007 07:50:34 PM
Can anyone help with a little info on this C47:

42-100876 (c/n 19339, 439th TCG) lost Jun 6, 1944. MACR 7289

I'm trying to find out names of pilot & crew members and where they went down.

Also, does anyone know what these numbers mean?    56TS15

My best guess was 56th Transport Squadron,  15th Air Force    ?

Thanks for your help!
Bob

Hello Bob

C-47 #42-100876 - 439 TCG - 93 TCS - was chalk number 58 in serial 12 - mission albany on d-day, carrying elements of the 506th PIR into Normandy
Pilot : 2nd Lt. Marvin F. Muir
Co-pilot : 2nd Lt. Kenneth C. Bell
Navigator : 2nd Lt. John A. Marisay
Radio-operator : Sgt. Phillip Snyder
Crew-chief : S/Sgt. Clifford L. Burgess

Lt. Marvin Muir maintained his plane in the line of flight to allow the paratroopers to jump. All paratroopers but one jumped. All the crew and the last paratrooper were killed in the crash. 2nd Lt. Marvin F. Muir got a DSC for his action on d-day.
The plane crashed at L'isle Marie, between Chef du Pont and Picauville.

PS: The MACR at Maxwell is unreadable.
re-PS : where you found the numbers?
