Help Please- New Guinea Campaign WDGO #9 45

Hello-
I am looking for information on my Grandpa - Robert C Peterson. I know that he was part of the 21 troop carrier squad, 374 Troop Carrier Group. He served overseas from 5/6/43-12/22/44. I think he was a wingman, but I'm not sure. His dicharge rank is lower then his highest rank.
He died when my mom was a teenager (in the 1970's) and we dont know a lot about him. Any information would be a big help.

More info...
Robert C. Peterson, my dad, was a Aircraft and Engine mechanic, officially. Family history from my mom says he was a front gunman for a while. Apparently he was in the back of the plane for a drink when the front gunman was hit by fire. His friend did not survive the attack.
I think he was demoted from Staff Sargent to private when he was cleaning up in the pit after working on a plane. No one knew he was there and another plane landed, running over his back. He was dischanrgbe for medical reasons shortly thereafter.
I do know my dad was married while in Australia, and had two children there. One was born in approximately 1942 and the other in 1944. After being discharged he was divorced and returned to the states. His third wife was Helen Crockett. They lived in Texas in 1970.
I would like to find out any info on this squad.
