Group Burial Information - 03/17/2007 10:11:19 PM
I am currently working on a project to document the facts and circumstances surrounding the almost 600 Group Burials at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.  The below named individuals were interred as a Group Burial but I cannot locate a Missing Air Crew Report or Accident Report to document these facts.  I have been in contact with the website Accident.com and with Lynn Gamma at Maxwell AFB, Alabama with no success.  I was just wondering if anyone had any information pertaining to this crash such as the facts and circumstances, tail number and crew positions.  Thank you for your time and assistance.  I have the Individual Deceased Personnel File on Warren H Sleeper, but there is no mention in the file as to the tail number or crew positions.  I have the book by Wiley O Woods and it makes reference to this crew being lost, but again no tail number or crew positions.  Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

Randy,
Since you have the IDPF on Warren Sleeper you must know which Bomb Group he was in. Write and ask for the after action report for that day and specify that you are looking for information about this crew, list all of their names and rank. Also give any information about the mission on which they were lost. Here is an address to write to.

This appears to be the crew of the 90BG 319BS B-24D 41-23709 (name, if any, unknown), shot down over Madang on 18/12/42.  Flown by Lt "Pinky" Adams

My database has "We got up at 3am, and without any breakfast took off at five still feeling pretty sleepy. We rendezvoused with four other planes over the coast of New Guinea and proceeded to Madang in broad daylight. We were immediately attacked by a considerable number of Zeros, which downed one of our planes immediately. They also killed Cpl Fraudsen, my rear gunner, shooting up the plane pretty bad. The 320th and 400th Squadrons lost planes on that day also. - Diary of Lt Paul E Johnson Jnr. 319BS"

Note the 400BS plane lost refers to 41-23825 TEXAS TERROR - Crashed Hinchinbrook Island en-route Townsville to Iron Range, Queensland
