Gone With The Wind 41-24286 - 06/06/2004 09:56:51 PM
I am researching B-24 Gone With The Wind (5thAAF, 90thBG, 400th BS), Serial 41-24286. My uncle late Robert Rabenhorst was a nose gunner on that bomber and I am interested in finding out more about the crew and missions. [signature]

Hi Jesse, I am also researching 90BG aircraft, and GONE WITH THE WIND is one that has a record that has a few researchers scratching their heads. In particular some reports saying she was previously known as SAN JOSE SPECIAL. I am assuming that you have info from your late uncle that ties the GWTW name to the serial. I would be extremely interested in any other info you might have available. Cheers Pete [signature]

Here's a picture of San Jose Special. I believe my dad was a crew member with GWTW and San Jose Special who was possibly on the ground crew. He is the mechanic on the right. I am sending this message on Memorial Day 2007 in honor of all the men especially fathers and those who have fallen serving this great country! God Bless America!

Do you have a picture of your late uncle from his days in the Pacific?  My father served in the SW Pacific with the 90th Bomb Group (319th Squadron).  Here's a picture of Gone with the Wind from his personal collection.  My records on that plane indicate that it flew 123 missions before being returned to the States in November of 1944.

Daniel,
My father's name was James O. Ashby. He was born in Rocky, Oklahoma and served served in the 400th Squadron Engineering Group and later worked at Tinker, AFB as a tech specialist on the B52 landing gear. I have a photo of Gone with the Wiind and the 400th Engineering Group that were taped in my Jolly Rogers Book he gave me. I have a full group photo of the 400th BG in New Guinea but am having trouble getting it posted because of its size. I will try to send the photos when I get them resized.

Thanks for your comments.
