          Hi Dave,

I believe Gary M. Valant passed away in the 1990's....I remember reading an article about Valant photos. ( I hope I'm wrong)  Gary was a Dallas,Texas photographer

I found a G.M. VALANT death verified in the social security death index  8 MAY,1944-15 MAY 1996, died in Texas.

Both Ancestry and Footnote list a Gary M. Valant born in May 1944, died May 1996 in Texas.  Wife's name Nancy.  No other information given.

Did find this tribute to the Gary Valant who died in 1996 written by his son.  Apparently he was a racing enthusiast.  Consists of several pages about various cars but says nothing about his books.  So ... this may or may not be the same Gary Valant who wrote about nose art.  Does anyone know anything about his other interests???

OK, found the connection.  Click this link.  About half way down the page it connects Nose art with Valco Enterprises, the race car company in the link in my previous post.  So this is one and the same Gary Valant and he is no longer with us.

              http://www.lancastermuseum.ca/noseartaahm.html

On a personal note as I read the page on the above link I found this in the second paragraph:
"Only one B-17 nose art painting was saved. It was found in the local Elk's Lodge in May 1982."

That one piece now hangs in the Mohave Museum in Kingman ... it is LUCKY PARTNERS ... my fathers B-17!

                Hal,
yes, sadly I knew I was correct about Gary.

To continue that personal theme. That B-24 "HERE'S TO YOU" photo at Walnut Ridge artwork is identical to "TARGET FOR TONIGHT"  44-8810  XR-L  on my dads crews assigned  B-17 panel now preserved at the Midland Museum. The ship 385thBG,transferred to 100thBG was also cut up at Walnut Ridge,AK   (The artists must have copied the same artwork seen in a publication.)

Can't be too many of us that Lucky!

Thanks guys, I was afraid that he was no longer with us but I was still hoping. He had two photos in his nos art book of Nobby's Harriet Z and I was hoping to find a source for these pictures. Dave

Hi Hal, That is the nose art, but not the photo, there is a black and white photo in the book of Nobby's Harriet Z in storage at Walnut Ridge shortly before scrapping, I was hoping to find who the original photographer was, where did Gary Valant get the photo? I have a similar photo that came from the American Airpower Heritage Museum, maybe that is where Valant got it? They have no real info on the aircraft, I think I know more about her that they do.
