Flatbush Floogie nose art - 04/04/2008 11:46:33 AM
Does anybody remember what the nose art on Flatbush Floogie 42-97083 looked like? I am building a Guillows B-17G Flying Fortress balsa wood model RC plane and want to dedicate it to my dad. I would like to paint it to match the actual plane. It was shot down 4-11-44.
Thanks for any help.

Jim,

No joy on nose art but attached is what she looked like overall; may be of some use in your modeling effort.

Jim,

Thanks to Mike's tip I found what you're looking for.  The photo on page 98 of Bowman's book is the same picture as Huey posted.  But as luck would have it the attached photo is on page 107.

Woooppps ... just re-read the caption for the above picture.  Says, FLATBUSH FLOOSIE, 42-32083, 452nd BG, 730th Sq.  And that it landed in Poland in June 1944.  But the writing on the nose of the plane in the picture definately says FLOOGIE.  Instinct says there is an error in the caption but will need to check further on the serial numbers to attempt to verify.

Just checked Bits & Pieces, that source says BOTH planes were named FLATBUSH FLOOGIE.  Sorry Jim, if you want to be sure what she looked like will have to keep searching.

Hey guys thank you so much. Huey that is the picture I posted. I also posted the picture of the crew being captued. That is my dad in the back of the line with his elbows up coving his face.
Thanks Guys
The picture is not clear enough to see if they had a girl on the plane.

Attached from my Dad's WWII photos of 452 BG.  Note flak holes in aircraft.

Thanks again.
