Finding your Father's War - 04/18/2007 11:52:02 AM
A reference book that some forum members might find handy:

FINDING YOUR FATHER'S WAR
A Practical Guide to Researching and Understanding Service
in the World War II US Army

by Jonathon Gawne

A lot of the questions that are asked on this forum by new members searching for answers are addressed in great detail in this useful volume.  Tony Mireles

The following is a post made by Jonathan Gawne, the author of this book, on March 29, 2008 on a different thread about this same topic.

"Hey Guys,

Thanks for mentioning my book. I hope it was of some interest to you. It really is geared to the person just starting out, and so far I have gotten some very nice thanks from people who have told me it helped get them started.

I absolutly agree it is light on the AFF.  I am a ground forces expert and that was main focus. I added in the AFF section for those people who found their subject was actually in an AAF unit and needed a start in that direction. Space was limited to try and keep the price down. And yes, AAF.com is mentioned as a great place to start!

As you guys know that doing air unit research is vastly different from ground units. In fact I envy you as you have so many different types of records to work with.  but knowing that I do not know enough of the subject to do it justice I did not try.

There has been some interest in an all-AAF and Navy volume, but for that I would need a co-author who knows the ins and outs of the subject. Although there is so much material coming onto the web it may not even be needed."

Here is a link to the book and were to purchase it. It sounds like it is a good source of assistance for many new researchers.
