F/O Robert P. Davis - glider pilot

F/O Robert P. Davis from Indianapolis, IN (ASN T-121833) is mentioned in the NARA Honor List with FOD, or finding of death. This I presume means that he was missing and was declared dead after a year.
Since I also found the name of glider pilot F/O Davis in relation with the Market Garden operations in Sept 44 I wonder who has more details about the circumstances surrounding his death? Unit he was assigned to?

All info welcome, thanks.

Regards,

Leendert

    Hi Leendert,

F/O Davis flew to Holland on the 19th of September. The tow cable broke and the glider crashed near Oostende. Guess the cable damaged the glider.

Did not find anything on Burton yet.

    Hans,

Thanks for the info. If you have some details about his unit, then I'll be happy to hear so. I presume the glider had ditched off Ostend and F/O Davis (and others?) went missing at first?

PS F/O Philip Burton stays elusive indeed. No tangible leads to this man so far.

    Mike & Leendert,
NWW2GPA records generally have no detail of crashes, etc.  Davis flew glider into Normandy and Market, was awarded purple heart, air medal and orange lanyard, KIA with DoD of 9/19/1944.
