Enola Gay: Last Surviving Crew Member visits Willow Run - 08/13/2008 08:55:11 AM

For those who had the opportunity to visit the "Thunder Over Michigan" Air Show and had some extra time on their hands, they had the occasion to see and spend a few minutes with "Dutch," the last surviving member of the Enola Gay crew. For me, it was being "with a part of history."  (I've incuded a generic link to a snapshot biography.)  As he sat at a table in the "guest tent,"  I looked across the tarmac and tried to picture in my mind that mission from Tinian to Japan and back.  On that same tarmac, well prior to that long-ago historic event, another B-29 visited the FO WR plant for the first time, an occasion which signaled the "changing of the guard" in the Pacific.  Standing on historic ground with a person who was involved in such history was quite an experience!  Best Regards!  Steven
