DID YOU FLY WITH "DUFF" - 10/25/2007 11:38:38 AM
Hello to all. I am new to this forum and looking for anyone that may have flown with or knew my father, Perry "Duff" Monroe. He was a ball gunner w/ 485thBG, 828thBS on the Owen Crew of "My Brother And I". That plane crashed on 6/28/44 in Bari. His flight logs however go until 9/8/44 when he completed his 50/35 and was sent stateside. Having contacted Jerry Whiting, we do believe that there are no surviving members of the original Owen crew. My father never talked about his experiences w/ me or my 3 brothers. We have recently uncovered many photo's and other documents that have been provided to Jerry (485th Assn). I am looking for anyone that may be able to add some "life" to the items we have. Thanks.

I believe iI have a letter from my great uncle referencing that plane and crew. I currently am in possession of all his wartime correspondence and it is extremely detailed. He was the pilot of 828 bs crew #3, Roger Nichols. He named his "Hell Fire and Damnation." I have been looking for a picture of the nose art for quite some time as all the photos I have are of the waist area or inside looking out during flight.  I can look to see if there is any detail concerning anyone from that crew. Your fathers log ends about the same time my uncle's did as he arrived in Italy in march I believe.

Have you contacted the 485thBG Assn? www.485thbg.org They have been a big help to me in gathering and exchanging information.

Dave, I sent you an email.  I would like to send you a word document on the living conditions at Venosa at the time your father was there.  Please reply

I have sent an email to the group but have had no reply. They must be busy.

Regarding the photo of "Hell, Fire and Damnation", it seems like I saw one recently.  If you'd like I'll search for it.           Jerry

Jerry, that would be great! i have been looking for years. all I know is that it was the name and a Petty girl in a cocktail glass, my uncle said it was "very classy". That was on his third B-24 as his first two Hell Fire and Damnation's were shot up too badly to keep flying.
thanks, Matt
