DC 4 or 5, Bataan Plane & Crew

I am trying to find out some information regarding the DC 4 or 5 planes McArthur flew in WW2 as well as information about the crew. My grandfather Stirling Palmer Bone was supposedly a radioman for McArtur at one point, I know he had been to the Philippines.  Any help would be appreciated as I am planning on writing a book on the plane as well as the crewman.I have a photo of my granddad with 2 other crewman at the nose of the plane where granddad looks like he is painting something on it.
Thank you before hand for any information.
I can be reached through my email at:  Sally_lyn1@hotmail.com, or my address at  Linda Carter, P.O. Box 5976, Amarillo, Tx 79117-5976.

I was recently informed the plane was a XC-108, a modified B-17 Flying Fortress.  It would make for an interesting book to read about the crew and the plane, a project I am considering doing.  Granddad Bone was also a Gunner at one point and then a radioman, not sure what order.

The original XC-108 was salvaged from the wreck in New England and is presently in Illinois in the process of restoration.

I would love to see it when they get it finished.  I am hoping to locate a full photo of it, my Granddad Bone had a full side view with the crew at one time, now all I have is the nose shot.

There is a book called The B-17 Flying Fortress Story by Roger Freeman and David Osborn which has a picture of the XC-108 on page 62. The aircraft is B-17E  41-2595.  This book came from England and cost was $ 65.00 US.
It lists most of the B-17s ....some 12,731 produced.

If I can get my scanner to working, I will attempt to make a photo copy of this picture.

Thank you. I really appreciate it.  I was told the plane I was looking for was supposed to be a DC 4 or 5, then someone said it was an XC-108. At least I do have a photo of the nose area, they are awesome looking planes from what I have been able to find.

Photo attached is rear end of Bataan, 41-2593 at Townsville, Australia. This shot is from the book "Wings Around Us", by Rodney Cardell.

Here is a photo of the Boeing XC-108 for you. I'll post a second one also. I'm sure that MacArthur flew in other types of aircraft as well as this one.

Thank you. According to the tail number this is the plane I was looking for. According to everything I have been searching, this is the plane refit for McArthur, I am hoping I am right. I will double check as I want to be right. Again, thank you for posting the photo's, they are fantastic.

Hopefully the photo I "tried" to upload will show up. If not let me know and I can email it to anyone interested.

I wish to thank everyone who responded in trying to help me locate information on the plane Bataan. I now have the photo's printed out and in a file so I can refer to them later. Thank you all again.
