Crew members of C-47 Serial #42-1000319 - 08/06/2002 11:16:29 PM
Paratrooper Private George Potter flew from England to France on D-Day and parachuted into Normanday. The pilot of the C-47 was Edward Savercool. The serial number of the plane was 42-1000319 and the "chaulk" number on the plane - to direct paratrooper units to their proper plane after debarking from the trucks and buses - was "69". George Potter's son,Tom. is trying to locate surrviving members of the Savercool crew, the Troop Carrier Group that carried him and the base in England from which they operated. My brother, Don Bolce, who also flew the D-Day mission as a radio operator on a C-47 of the 437th Troop Carrier Group. thinks that George Potter may have flown out of Uppottery, England with the 439th Troop Carrier Group. I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance in locating information on this crew. Hal Bolce [signature]

Thierry, Thanks for the question. My brother, Don, flew the missions with air drops to Bastone. He is off the net, attending his high school class reunion this week. However, when he returns next week, I'll send you his e-mail address and I am certain he can provide you any information you require. He is currently changing IPO's but will be in touch with the new e-mail address when he returns. Cordially, Hal [signature]

Hal,

I started my website project week ago and the first version is available since a couple of minutes... but still in construction.
You're the first to who I send the news !

I was able to trace all C47 that crashed on Belgian soil, crew included
Have a look in "Aircraft losses" to see the first part (Dec 23 & 26)

I've seen your brother on a small but very nice website with 'unbelievable' colour pictures taken above Bastogne ! !

To visit my website, just click on In silence we landed

As told already, all info about the dropping a towing to Bastogne are welcome.

My intention is to write a book in French for all the people living in the 'Bastogne perimeter', to remember those courageous crew.
The dropping in nearly never mentioned by the local population.
As most of the people were in their cellars, they did not see those hundreds of parachute and/or gliders bringing the urgent supplies.

Many thanks in advance for your support

Have a nice weekend

Rgrds

Thierry
