Crash Boat Rescues - 10/12/2007 08:24:38 PM
One question I've not asked in my quest to learn more about the USAAF Crash Boats.

Were any of you rescued by an AAF Crash Boat during WWII, or even after?  They existed until 1956.

I would be interested in knowing the details of your rescue from the point you lifted off from your base, your destination, and what went wrong, and how the crash boat played into your rescue, even if the boat only responded and you were picked up by another source.

Thanks for all the great information you folks share with us less knowledgeable members.

Hi Larry
Would you be interested in RAF Crash Boats as well
I have some details of HSL156 a British Crash Boat which picked up downed aircrews in the English Channel during WW11
I have made contact with the Crash Boats Captains son who has given me details of one operation in which he rescued crews of two downed 8th USAF B.17's which crashed on returning for a mission on the continent. One crashed in the middle of a minefield but the boat got through and rescued all the crew members .

Hello Dakota....no, not at this time.  My primary interests are about the USAAF Crash Boats.  Gathering up details about these boats is like pulling hen's teeth as it is.  I might lose the bubble I'm on now if I were to drift off into British territory :0)

My dad tells me his experiance was that during the Korean War helicopters or seaplanes were mostly used for rescue, with the smaller boats based offshore near airfields and larger boats used 'up north' to deliver partisan, guns, food, etc. plus some rescue work.
