Alain...........the date seems to have been the 5th; the 78th History says he was lost while strafing a train near " Metelen "  ( should be MECHELEN ? )       . He was in the HQ flight.                     Nick

Think it must be in Germany (Mechelen is Belgium) as there's a place called Metelen in North Rine Westphalia not far from the Dutch border...

I think Paul is correct, German report attached to MACR says Eastern norder of town Rheine Wesfalia.
