Col. Ben Rimmerman

Hi! My AP US History class is doing projects about WWII soldiers who died who went to our school, Omaha Central High. Col. Ben Rimmerman graduated from there in 32', and I was wondering if anyone knew him, knew someone who knew him, or has any stories to share about him. Thanks!

I have a photo of Col Rimmerman.  He was in the same squad as my father-in-law.
I will try and attach it to this post. Col Rimmerman is on the right as you look at the picture.

Yes that is Col. Duncan on the left.
I will post a photo from the 352nd fighter squad. They are L to R
    Bixby, Martorella, Briggs and Makikuhna
Also my father-in-law  Doug Kuhna is on the far right. He changed his name from MakiKuhna and lives in Michigan. He has lots of war stories he has passed on to us.

Has anyone ever heard of "Maximum Effect"? It was Jan 1, 1945 when 1,945 bombers and fighters flew over and dropped bombs on Berlin to make a statement.

    I wonder if your father-in-law flew a mission on May 29, 1944.

Well he was over at  Raydon Airdrome at that time. He arrived in Scotland in June 1943, sailed over on the Queen Mary, and then took a train to Raydon. He was there till the end of the War in Europe.
Not sure he would remember that particular date unless he has a log of his flights which he might. I will have to ask him.
    Why that date???

    Thank you.

The 353rd did escort to B-17 bombers that were flying a mission to Poznan in Poland (my hometown) on May 29, 1944. I am collecting information on the mission.

Not sure if he flew over Poland. Most of the time he flew over Germany. I will have to give him a call and see if they made it to Poland. He flew a P-51 named Miss Ethel (named after his future wife).

I asked my father-in-law and he said he didn't fly any missions into Poland as far as he can remember.

I commend your Class for taking up such a project.  I did a quick Google on Col. Ben Rimmerman and there is no shortage of history on this man.  Good Luck in your project.
