Capt Walter K.Fisher 7/04/1945 371 FG 404 FS - 07/23/2008 12:16:57 PM
Hi !

This pilot was reported missing when shot down on April 7,1945 aboard P47D 44-33012. The macr 13840 mention that his plane crashed near Behrensen.
What happened with the pilot ? Was he killed ? Did he become a pow ? Was he able to escape ?

Many thanks and best regards

Luc

Luc,

As you may already know Walter K. Fisher is not listed among those stil MIA, nor is he listed as having been a POW at the DPMO website.

Luc,

There is still the possibility that he died.  I don't know how to search the online databases to determine if he was KIA.

mike,

Thanks for your input! I am not directly involved in this instance but am working a couple of similar situations within the 341st Bm Grp and I'd like to draw on  your greater knowledge and experience in researching MACRs and MIA/POW listings...

Without an update to Capt Fisher's status (MIA) on the MACR (as shown on footnote) one might presume he never returned to duty. However, since he is not listed as MIA nor POW on either DPMO nor the NARA websites it seems to me either he survived or he was killed and his remains recovered.

Would a search of listings frpm Battle Monuments and Military Cemetaries be a logical next step?  Any other suggestions for gaining more information?

Mike and Tony,

Many thanks for your replies.

The National WWII Memorial website has a very good database ,are mentioned :
all killed  (based on the National Archive database)
all buried in the ABMC-cemeteries
all missing (also from the ABMC-database)

http://www.wwiimemorial.com/default.asp?page=registry.asp&subpage=search

For pow's the Nara database is very interesting :

best regards from Belgium
