Capt. Orsinger
Hi All. This officer, from the 366th FG, was from the 366th FG (9thAF)attached to the 353rd FG (possibly for combat experience) in February 1944. Along with four others, he went missing on the 22nd of that month. Does anyone have details of that lost? A/C Ser. No? Was he KIA or POW? Thanks, fana

Hello, Moonman. Many thanks for your response - most intresting. I am very surprised that no MACR appears to have been raised. The only explanation is that the 353rd thought that as he was from the 366th, they, the 366th would be filing the Report. Similarly, the 36th assumed that as he was flying with the 353rd, they should file the MACR!! Maybe it will surface!! I checked out the matriculation of the P47: 42-75140 appears to have been operated by the 56th FG after the 22nd February... please keep in touch. regards, Andy WILSON

In the book I have of the 366 FG it says he was lost on 3-2-44 due to fighters? The 353 FG book says 2-22-44 he was lost ,last seen in a spin due to maybe German fighters. No photo of him in either book. Starnge in that the 366 FG book the date is differant and I checked before I posted here for the second time to make sure. He was part of the HQ 366 FG

BW - Moon , He is not listed in Bits and Pieces or Kent Millers Books. Also - Not on MACR Database It is possible that a MACR was written Post War , The # would be in the 15,000s You could Request the IDPF with a Freedom Of Information Act Form. Mike

The HEADQUARTERS VIII FIGHTER COMMAND NARRATIVE OF OPERATIONS (ISSUE NO 120) entry (listing the FC Groups which took part in 8FC FO 247), states that five aircraft were lost on the Mission of the 22nd Feb; Maj. Beckham, 351st Sqn, Capt Orsinger, 366th FG, Lt Wood, 351st Sqn, Lt Hurlburt, 351st Sqn, Lt Stiff, 352nd Sqn. Maybe it was a case that each FG concerned assumed the other group would do the paperwork/MACR for Captain Orsinger!! regards, Andy

Andy - Also the Problem could be the 366th FG was 9th AF. 353d FG was 8th AF Mike

On Sunday, I photographed Captain Orsinger's grave at the Rock Island National Cemetery. His final resting place is one gravestone along with others killed on 2/22/44 including Emil Bohaty, Charles E Graham, Gunnard M. Johnson, Lawrence J MacNeil, Francis W. McComber, Donald W. Shinners, Robert W Wigton all of the Army Air Force. I don't know how to upload this photo to this site. I was googling his name to see if I could find out how he was killed. I assume these are others killed with him on his plane, but I don't know. Am happy to share this photo, but not sure how to upload. Marion
