Sandor,

MACR 13820 gives as position (last seen?) 48/31 N and 17/27 E.

On footnote.com you can call up that MACR, but I'm not a member (yet...). Page 3 of MACR gives a map, presumably of crash site.

Regards,

Leendert

Sandor,

Here is the map Leendert mentioned.  Not easy to see but if you look carefully you will see where it says 'last seen here'.  Lower portion, just left of center.  Hope it helps.  Correct MACR is 13280, number got transposed.

Sandor,

Re-checked this MACR and found there is only one witness statement posted on footnote.  Interestingly this statement refers to the name of the co-pilot, not the pilot.  Page one of the MACR indicates all crewmen were returned to duty.  Will be happy to post that too if you wish.  For now, the witness statement is attached.

Hi,

This plane went down 90-100 miles east of Vienna.  The pilot was Captain Lloyd Allan.  The copilot was Colonel Cornett, the group commander.  The plane was damaged on the bomb run.  #3 engine and one fuel tank were damaged.  They headed east, towards the field at Pec. They thought they were behind Russian lines and were losing a lot of fuel. They landed in a field between the German and Russian lines.  (The briefing map showed them behind the Russian lines, but the Germans pushed them back.)  The entire crew was captured by the Germans.  As they were leaving the area, the Russians shelled the plane and blew it up, with a direct hit.  I spoke with one of the crew a couple of weeks ago, Jim Ridout, about this information.  If you need additional, contact me at my email address:
