Can you Identify - 04/22/2005 11:05:15 PM
My father Clifford Staves a Staff Sargent is the third from the right in the back row. I have other pictures such as Yokohama and Poisy Ivy from ohter crews. Can you identify any of the other crew members?

Im sorry to say that if this had been posted 6 moths ago I might've been able to have helped you. I was good friends with S/Sgt. Paul Burns who one of the blister gunners on "Tokyo Rose" also in the 3rd PRS. I recall him having pictures of this aircraft and others in his scrap book. Unfortunately he passed away last year. They burried him in his Khaki Class B's with his gunner wings and ribbons. Sorry I cant be of help with the names. I wish you the best of luck with your search.

Thanks for your attempt. My dad died in 1960 when I was 10 and am trying to
get some info on him during the war. I have about 15 pictures on the crews,
missions and candid photos of what I believe is Guam.I do not have any of
the Tokyo Rose crew.

I have pictures of the Tokyo Rose with crew. My Dad said there were 2 crews on this bird, not sure why, but he always referrred to two crews. I'd be happy to make some prints and forward to you.

Randall - Recon Missions were very long and arduous.     The 2 crews would have alternated Missions to   prevent Burn out.  " Tokyo Rose "  # 42- 93852.  " Tokyo Rose " flew the 1st Recon Mission to Tokyo. Name and Nose Art painted on A/C after this Mission. " Yokohama Yo - Yo " # 42 - 24621 Flew 2d  Recon Mission to Tokyo.

Larry,

Photographs at attachment mentioned in earlier posts extracted from 3rd PRS website at  http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://home.att.net/~sallyann2/yoyo.jpg&imgrefurl=http://home.att.net/~sallyann2/westenberger.html&h=312&w=437&sz=14&hl=en&start=4&tbnid=m6JpGS9gQjWczM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=126&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2B%252242%2B-%2B24621%2B%2522%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DG and http://39th.org/39TH/noseart2.htm

Maybe the webmasters may have information; both would probably appreciate any photographs you might be able to add to their websites.

Take what you like and leave the rest....

Andy

Thanks all for your replies. I made contact with the Jeff Rohling the son of Bud Rohling pilot of the Quan Yin. Jeff put me in touch with his father who lives in California. Bud called me up one night and we talked for about 45 minutes. Great experience. Bud had all the stories including how they won the DFC.

Bud had kept all his flight logs and put them on disc. Sent me copies. Jeff and I had found microfiche on the misson reports for the Quan Yin. Jeff purchased the microfiche and put the data on DVD. The cost to do this was about $500.00. There were 5 rolls of microfliche and the cost to transfer. Allot of interesting reading. Everything from equipment failure to food recommendations for the trip.

If you have any pictures you would like to e-mail me . I would appreciated it. I have about 15 pictures I can send if requested. Bud lost allot of his pictures and was glad to see the ones I had.

Thanks again all.

ShooShooBaby, that is a distinct possibility. My conversations with Dad were many years ago, so it's hard to recall the subtleties. Maybe it was just my take on things, but it seemed as though he referred to a "replacement crew" as though either the first crew was lost or re-assigned. I wish I had gotten the full details of this "enigma".

Randall - it is possible for sure. Also , Squadrons worked on a system of "Seniority". Veteran Crews were
assigned Newer Aircraft while Replacement Crews got the Older A/C.

Larry;
I hope that you are still active on the Forum. A H.S. mate of mine was a photographer/gunner on F-13 Ser.#42-03863 that was lost Feb. 14, 1945.  His name was Richard L. Bergh, the Capt. of the plane was Masuga and the pilot was Napier.  I'm wondering if it might be possible that you have a photograph of that plane and crew, if so would it be possible for me to get a copy of it.  You can contact me at Email address jonjac2@msn.com
