Yes, plane 981 was the second (right wing) of two headed to DZ A.
The material in Koskimaki's book comes from Piet Pulles and Glen Braddock.  Much of the Pulles material is inaccurate.  Particularly the piece about the pilot being hidden by the underground.  Much of the Braddock material is also questionable. I have both the published text as well as Braddock's original handwritten narrative.
The notation about the name of the plane is completely wrong.  That is a compound historical error where someone took the name of the ENGINES manufacturer (as found on the MACR) and transposed it as the name of the aircraft.  Who ever wrote the name of the engines in the MACR misspelled Chevrolet as Chevelet....Plane 981 did not have a nose art name.

Mike received the Purple Heart as a result of his death in Holland, not a wound in Normandy.

I did a 65 page summary report on all of the forensics of the 981 loss.  I will send you a copy.

Thanks for the corrections Dave. Like I said, this is all a mystery to me right now.

I thought that the others reading this thread might want to see your uncle Michael Rofar.
