Johnny I have an unidentified Cargo plane 2 km north of the Belgian border around that date The a/c was unmanned and circled untill it ran out of gas and came down more or less in one piece (including the cargo) Do you have more info about cargo planes coming down or crews with a missing plane? I hope to solve this mystery Sealander

Japio, thanks for the info, in fact I am looking for a crew without an a/c the date may be 16/17/18/19 Sept 1944. If in those days I had to parachute I would have preferred Belgium over Holland seen the situation on the ground. Therfore I suspect that they jumped over Belgium. regards sealander

Sealander, I certenly know about C-47s that crashed or crash-landed during operation Market Garden. Your story doesn't ring a bell. Can you provide some more information? Where did the plane land? What was the cargo? Hans

Hans, I said cargo plane, not C-47 as at this point I am not sure. In the meantime I found somebody with a crew and looking for a missing a/c. In fact # 47 from the book by Arie-Jan van Hees about Market Garden. # 47 is a STIRLING that was abandoned by the crew near the drop zone on Sept 21 1944. The a/c I am looking for crashed in the middle of nowhere between Antwerp and Hulst after circling his tank(s) empty. Without a crew it did not land but came down in pretty good shape. Clothing was taken from the wreck. But it is difficult to find what else was "rescued". From the story I conclude that there was some cargo left on board. It is like asking a beachcomber what he found on the beach. The situation was without government or police at that very moment. The Germans had left that part of Zeeuws Vlaanderen on the 19/20th and for the First Polish Armoured Division the action was 20 Kms to the West at that moment. The place where "'my" a/c came down was not requiring any attention at all of the Poles who were running that sector of the front. The moment it came down is probably the explanation for remaining unnoticed. If you also can find a candidate around that date that fits my description pls let me know. regards Sealander

Sealander, You are correct. You didn't specify the plane as a C-47. The Americans only used C-47s and C-53s during Market Garden. I only study their losses. I have Arie-Jan's book as well. You mya be right about # 47. But there is a huge distance between the place where the crew bailed out near the DZ) and the place where the plane ended. I am afraid that this is another mystery that will be hard to solve. Hans

Could it have been a Horsa Glider? They don't look like a glider.. Terry T.
