Burma-based TG-5s painting scheme 05/09/2009 12:00:47 PM (permalink)

Hello,

One of the most underestimated subject in the USAAF gliding history are the TG-5s used operationally in the CBI.

I would like to ask you if there was a regulation how to paint those TG-5s at Burma for instance? The photographs of CBI-based TG-5s are ultra rare but I know one privately taken photograph that shows the 1st Air Commando Group airfield. Bamboo-rattan house or barn can be seen there, the tents, one B-25 Mitchell and six TG-5 gliders. Those TG-5s are painted very originally.
• two of them are silver or gray overall without any s/n or national markings
• one of them is silver or gray with new US national insignia with side bars
• three of them are in OD camouflage scheme with older national insignia without side bars

Does anybody know anything more about the orders how to paint the TG-5s in the CBI?

Thanks in advance for possible consultation.

Best regards

Gregory
