Hi Rob

I cannot help you with details of the December 26th 1944 incident, but have found the following:

On March 23rd 1944 a P-47D serial number 42-75493 from the 448th FS, 83rd FG was involved in a take-off crash at Dover AAF, Dover, Delaware.

The interesting thing is that the pilot was named William H. Bunn Jr. Don't know if he is the same person, but the chances must be pretty good?

The Accident Report should be available from AFHRA at Maxwell.

Regards

Chris.

"Thanks Chris and Mike,

Since posted the above I have found out it was the same man Chris, "He had a brake failure and stuck a Jug in the mud next to the taxiway before going overseas.  He had over 200 hours in the Jug when they sent him to a Mustang group, he had zero time in the Mustang"
Thanks Mike I have FOD for both Durant and Colins also a further question, Bunns' plane had a small slanted (to the left) 2 painted on the lower nose of his plane Janey III, does anyone know it's signifigance if any?

Thanks again for your time and help

Hi Rob

Glad it was the same person. I thought the chances had to be good that they were the same.

Going from a P-47 to a P-51 must have taken some getting used to just like that! A big difference in size.

Regards

Chris.
