Betty Boop

Does anyone know if Betty Boop was used as nose art or squadron logo? I saw photo of B-17 with Betty Boop nose art,but it wasn't a reproduction of comic strip Betty Boop!

Hi Tracy,
Here is one picture from the 91st BG of Betty Boop, but the B-17 is named Paper Dolly.

Also a 453rd BG B-24 named Betty Boop s/n 42-52226.  I was unable to find a photo.

390th B-17 F 42-30434 named 'Betty Boop a Pistol Packin' Mama'.  (But this certainly isn't the cartoon character Betty Boop)  There is an incredible documentary film called "Pistol Packin' Mama, The Missions of a B-17",  I highly recommend this video!!!  One of the crew of this Fort talks about a time when some General walked by this B-17 and said, "Put some pants on that"

I believe there are some WWII fighter aircraft that have Betty Boop nose art as well.

Tracy, some where in one of my books I have seen Betty Boop nose art and using her name.My problem is that I am on vacation and far removed from said photo. When I return home I will search source,or appologize for a faded memory. In either case,I will keep you apprised.

"Pistol Packing Mama" is B-17 I saw in photo. No resembalance to Betty Boop, and she sure doesn't wear any pants.

T,
As you probably know, PPM was on the port side and BB on the starboard.  In this case Betty Boop was an affectionate nickname for the pilot's (Geary) wife.  Don't know how long the pants stayed on.  Perhaps the CO recinded his previous order as Geary had quite a distinguished career with the 390th and 100th BGs.
