Best of the 98th BG

I'm working on a 4 foot X 6 foot poster for the Air Museum of Kentucky. I'm taking the 15th AAF Organizational Chart, blowing it up and adding color pictures of the most representative plane and person/crew. So, 1. Who is the most famous/recognized person of the 98th? 2. What is the most recognized/famous plane of the 98th? Examples: For my dad's group, the 97th B.G.: 1. Paul Tibbets, Jr. 2. The "All American" For the 332 F.G. (Redtails): 1. Benjamin O. Davis 2. "By Request"

ORIGINAL: jcrossed I'm working on a 4 foot X 6 foot poster for the Air Museum of Kentucky. I'm taking the 15th AAF Organizational Chart, blowing it up and adding color pictures of the most representative plane and person/crew. So, 1. Who is the most famous/recognized person of the 98th? 2. What is the most recognized/famous plane of the 98th? Most famous person: Probably Col. John R. (KILLER) Kane. Medal of Honor. Aircraft: would probably be "THE SANDMAN" S/N 42-40402. This is the B-24 Liberator pictured coming out of the fire and smoke and dodging smoke stacks on the 1 August 1943 Low Level "TIDAL WAVE" mission. This photo has been featured in many, many books and articles. The pilot of The Sandman is still a very active member of our association. Herb Harper, Former historian. 98th Vets. Assoc.
