Best of the 31st FG
-

I'm working on a 4 foot X 6 foot poster for the Air Museum of Kentucky. I'm taking the 15th AAF Organizational Chart, blowing it up and adding color pictures of the most representative plane and person/crew. So, 1. Who is the most famous/recognized person of the 31st? 2. What is the most recognized/famous plane of the 31st? Examples: For my dad's group, the 97th B.G.: 1. Paul Tibbets, Jr. 2. The "All American" For the 332 F.G. (Redtails): 1. Benjamin O. Davis 2. "By Request"

1. I'd have to agree on Robert Goebel, he has been signing autographs for a long time! 2. The Spitfire Mk VIII, "Fargo Express" of Lt. Leland P (Tommy) Molland. This plane has been virtualized, Modeled by Hasegawa, Made into Die Cast Collectables, and even copied as a replica. Photo's of it are on Calendars. I even heard there is a copy of it in an air museum in Britain. [image]local://15804/FA4950F173404F2BAEEC1A3419617F31.jpg[/image]

After thinking about this overnight, perhaps I should change my mind for the most recognized person of the 31st FG. There were many fine pilots but the ground support personnel should be recognized as well. My other suggestion for the most recognized person of the 31st FG is MSgt "Buzz" Howell, especially for his dedication in publishing the newsletter of the group. Not to mention his war record for "keeping them flying". Yuri
