Bernard McGrattan? - 08/10/2007 05:23:56 PM
I'm looking for any info on Capt. McGrattan, especially any photos of the bird he went down in (P-51B WD-D 42-106575) on D-Day.

I'm specifically looking for any bio info available on him, since his hometown is listed variously as Chicago, Ill and Utica, NY. I'm trying to establish what his ties were to Utica and if it can really be called his hometown- I live there, and if he can be established as a native resident, I would like to have a model of his P-51 done up in its D-Day markings and donate it to either the local historical society or the public library.

I think its a shame that a man who was an Eage Squadron volunteer and ace of the USAAF with 8.5 aerial kills who gave his life on D-Day is completely unknown in his supposed hometown. I'd like to try and do something about that.

Hello.  My name is Mike McGrattan.  Bernard was an uncle of mine.  In your comments, you mention that he was a nice guy.  Did you know him personally?  I would really like to learn anything I can to add to our family history.  Any information, even little things, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,   Mike McGrattan (California)

one of the regular mistakes in MACR's - typos in serial-number - there was no P-51B with this serial - 42-106576 definitely is correct.
