Basic research on my grandfather - Stanley J. Kozik - 11/10/2003 05:47:33 PM
Thanks in advance to any who can help. I've been compiling information on my Grandfather's tour in Europe, Stanley J. Kozik, 8th AF, 390th BG, 570 SQ. I've taxed all information available from 390th.org and am looking to moving on; particularly, I'm interested in training and preparation before the war. He enlisted December 12th, 1941 (or so) but didn't fly his first mission until late summer '44. Where can I look to find this information? Also, where can I find out about mission reports? I can remember a few times when he mentioned to me he was shot down - where can I find this out? For what it's worth (and this might not be the appropirate forum, but I thought I'd post it anyway), I've attached a copy of a photo I took while up in the Yankee Lady, a B-17G at Willow Run Airport in Belleville, MI, this summer. While we were up, Jack Rousch of Rousch racing fame, was up in his P-51. He flew off our wing for about 30 minutes. It was a real blast. Hope you don't mind. [signature]

Ryan, While I can find no evidence that he was shot down, He certainly has an impressive list of 35 missions flown; all with the same crew. Apparently, at that late date, his crew was not assigned to any particular aircraft, although he did fly on Reluctant and Raincheck several times. The research dept. at the 390th should be able to help you with mission reports, but they are expensive to reproduce and they may ask for a small donation. As far as your Grandfather's early service, you would have to check elsewhere for that. I would suggest that you contact Carolyn B. at res390th@aol.com for selected mission reports; obviously the entire 35 missions would be somewhat expensive to reproduce. If I can be of further help, please contact me. Hugh G. 390thBG Docent and Research Volunteer [signature]

Hey Hamfist, this your grampa's nephew, Mark! I've found some pics of the planes he flew in. Send me an email and I'll get them to you.
