B-24 Hell's Belle
-
05/30/2008 08:44:43 PM
Some time ago there was a guy on here looking for a photo or info concerning a B-24 named Hell's Belle. I went and looked for the post but was unsuccessful. Since I don't have hours growing on trees, here is the post in hopes that the right guy sees it. B-24 Hell's Belle Photo of nose art can be found on page 134 of FOR THE BOYS The Racy Pin-Ups of World War II Good luck TonyM.

Hello, I am new to this list. I have a picture of the crew in front of the plane Hell's Belle. At the bottom of the picture it says Lt. Roberts crew. I am not sure how to access FOR THE BOYS, The Racy Pin-ups of WWII? I have about 30 pictures of these planes that have just such pin-ups painted on them. Do you know who Lt. Roberts was.....not given name on the picture. Thank you, Anne

Anne, FOR THE BOYS The Racy Pin-Ups of World War II is a book. I doubt highly that the book has been digitized. The local library might have a copy. TonyM.

Anne, Can you scan your picture and post it to this thread? JPG, 200kb max file size. Perhaps someone here might see something in the picture to help identify Lt. Roberts. The photo in the book Tony mentioned is no help, not enough there to identify anything beyond the fact that the photo is of a B-24. Hell's Belle was not an unusual name, one source lists at least 18 B-17s with that name and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a similar number of B-24s with that name too. Possibly there is something in your photo that might at least help to identify the specific bomb group or if really lucky it might include the serial number. Please try to post it. Also, if you have 30 such photos you might consider creating an album in the members photo gallery. We all appreciate seeing these photos. Hal

There are at least 20 different B-24s named Hell's Belle or Hell's Bell listed in THE B-24 NOSE ART NAME DIRECTORY by Wallace R. Foreman It was a popular name. TonyM.
