What do you wish to know about "Laetitia" and crew? I have a complete "memoir" from two of the crew members, ball turret gunner Weaver Doyle, and tail gunner, Glen Martin plus the memoir of the co-pilot, Lt. DeFro Tossey, if that would be off help to you. The bomber was hit by flak near Brux, CZ and was trying to make it to the Russian lines when the plane caught fire and the crew was forced to bail out near Cernikovice. The entire crew was captured and were POWs. Glen Martin injured his ankle when he landed on a cow being milked by a young lady and was eventually hospitalized while the rest of the crew was moved from place to place until the end of the war. You may contact me at the email address below.

I spoke with Dale Albright for a time yesterday. A very nice gentleman. I plan to speak with him more later. He and his family are planning to visit CZ, Cernikovice later this year, probably June, he told me. At 86 years of age, that would be a daunting trip but hopefully he will be able to go. Now, how would you like to receive the information I have regarding "Laetitia", a/c # 44-6640 and her crew? I have the MACR (which you probably already have), interviews with 3 of the crew members and the basic history of what transpired that fateful day, 24 March 1945. I can send it all via email if you wish. I still do not have a photo of "Laetitia" and I have looked through all of my archived bomber photos but do not find one there. It would be unusual for Dale Albright to have a photo of that plane but he might. Advise me how you would like to receive the materials. And Howard, I know that PIlsen is where the bomber is listed as crashing but it was not even close to Pilsen when it went down. It was on the outskirts of the village Cernikovice, near Rychnov nad Kneznou (sp?) approx. 140km east of Prague. This is quite near the southern Polish border while Pilsen is much nearer the western border of CZ closer to Austria. I don't know where the researcher came up with the Pilsen site unless that was the area (Brux - now Most) where the plane was last seen by the group after being hit by flak. The only reason I am confident of this is because I stood in the field where the bomber crashed near Cernikovice and I have seen parts of the airplane in the museum there as well as a plaque laid in the town square honoring the crew members of this plane. Not to put down the researcher or yourself at all, but rather to correct some misinformation. My father's plane also went down that day but they were able to make it to the Russian lines before bailing out.

Well, Jirka, since I cannot speak, read or write Czech, I would have little idea of what Libor Parizek wrote regarding the fate of "Laetitia", A/C # 44-6640 and her crew. But having said that, I spoke at length with 4 of the crew members before they died and they all gave pretty much the same description of what transpired on that day, 24 March 1945 and the days following until the end of the war and their liberation. So I am confident of their story being relatively accurate. I have not spoken at length with Dale Albright but I do intend to do so soon. I have not read what you have written regarding that day and the days following either so far be it from me to judge your writings against that of Mr. Parizek. I do know that while three of the crew members and myself were in the Czech Republic as guests of the Czech people of Cernokovice, we learned many things, saw many sights and were generally treated very. very well. The Czech people did not care if what a person had written was accurate or not, they simply wished to thank the American airmen for fighting for their freedom, nothing more or less. Having said that, I will tell you that I consider Libor and Magda Parizek as my friends and always will, whether what he wrote about "Laetitia" was 100% accurate or not. I wish you the very best in your future research endeavors.

Joel, I'm trying to write a book about this mission, I talked to a lot of people who think the event to remember, and I've seen a lot of things from B-17 "Laetitia".I brought a part of the wings, that was all the time in the barn for a gentleman, i notice from you, we build new ... and a nice monument in place where he landed after the explosion, therefore bombarder trying to write the truth, and Mr. Pařízek is doesn't want to talk about anything.I'm doing this so that our children don't forget, not for popularity, sam and sponsora...I'm sorry my English.
