    42-37816 JD D "Big Stupe V" failed to return on 13 April 1944 due to German fighters. Crash site is not given. MACR 3868

    I am the grandson of S/SGT Robert W. Bechtel. Plane was on fire when they belly landed.The ball turret was dropped in the air along with all extra weight.They had very little if any fuel left and only had I believe 1 engine left working. they were attacked twice by fw 109`s . The offical 384th bg site has MACR report and pics of the plane
