Uwe,

42-39954 T was attached to the 452nd BG, 728th Squadron when it failed to return due to German fighters and crashed at Oppenwehe, Germany on 23 March 1944. There were 5 KIA and 5 POWs. MACR 3344. Pilot was Lt Lascellis W. Yates, Jr. Have the crew list if needed.

hello mike,

I wonder about this sign. until now, I found only callsigns like

VE + M or QE + X for example, no numbers.

9 ? Z + T.

Uwe -
Some 2d and 3d Division Groups had Numbers and Letters.
398th BG in 1st Division also.
9Z + T is correct for 728th Sq.

Uwe and Mike,

According to 'Battle Colors' by Robert Watkins, page 96, the 452nd did not display squadron codes.  Only the radio call was displayed and that was only on the tail.  The 728th Sq used a '- alpha' code, the 729th Sq used an 'alpha -' code, the 730th Sq used an alpha only code, and the 731st Sq used an 'alpha +' code.  The call sign displayed on this aircraft would have been '-T'

Crew was on their 15th mission when shot down.

If you want additional information on missions flown, send me your email address and will send.  Information is on excel spread sheet and can not be posted here.

Thanks.
